2011 Goals: Pass or Fail

Castillo de San Marcos

The first category is Personal Goals.

Health:
I will again become motivated to improve my health.  To do this I will need to exercise, eat better and deal with stress in a more positive way.  Exercise:  I am paying for a gym membership.....that has gone unused for at least a month and a half.  Tsk...Tsk.   I am going to commit to going to the gym at least 8 times this month (and every month this year). FAIL!  I cancelled the gym membership because I lost interest.  Due to a torn meniscus in my knee and knee surgery I did not work out .....or anything.

I will eat foods that are better for me by eliminating  more of the processed foods that I really like.  More whole grains, vegetables and fruits will be incorporated into my diet.  I will eliminate at least one diet soda a day and replace it with water. ( I drink way too much soda... seriously).
PARTIAL FAIL.  I still drink too much soda, but I have Incorporated more fruits and vegetables in my diet.

Everyone has stress in their life.  I tend to internalize my stress and pretend like there is nothing wrong.  This year, I am going to rely on my family and friends more to listen and help with the load. Definitely am going to do more things
spur of the moment and have fun in as many situations as possible.PASS.  This year has had its share of normal and abnormal stressful events.  I have taken my own advice and reached out to family and friends to lessen the load.  It seems I am a good delegator.

The next category is
Financial Goals.

This Christmas was a debt buster.  I did not have a plan in place (for most of the year) to pay for Christmas.  It comes around every year and I always think I am not going to spend but a couple of hundred dollars.  Wake up Lisa!!!  Every year, I blow the Christmas budget to smithereens!! My budget this year for Christmas was 500.00 dollars.  Final Tally..... 975.00!  Holy Christmas Tree!! I have planned ahead for Christmas 2011.  Each paycheck, we are having automatic deductions taken out and sent to our ING Christmas Savings Account.  By the end of the year, we will have 1000.00 dollars for Christmas!!
PASS.  With the help of my $500 Holiday Challenge, I managed to stay at around $600.00 dollars.  Many gifts were purchased early in the year at deep discounts.  This helped a great deal in reducing the amount of money spent for Christmas.   I will be doing this again for 2012.

We want to significantly reduce or possible eliminate our credit card debt this year.  We owe around 11,000 dollars in CC debt.  I will be applying for a no interest for 24 months credit card and transfer the balances to that card.  ( I know that this is risky... because I might be tempted to spend more..)
FAIL. FAIL. FAIL.  There were many factors affecting the elimination of our debt this year.  A new house, a job layoff, just to name a few.  We are going to do better in 2012!

We need wills.  This definitely needs to get done this year.  ( I say this every year).
FAIL.  AGAIN.

I am going to use more cash and less debit card for purchases.  This is always so difficult for me.  I find cash limiting....what if there is something else I want to buy and I don't have the cash??  This area needs work, definitely.
SEMI-PASS.  I did use cash more often than the debit card.  Room for improvement here.

The next category is
Blog Goals.

I want to grow my blog!  I currently have 72 subscribers to my blog.  I want to that number to reach 250 by the end of 2011!
PASS!  Depending on the reliability of FeedBurner, I have between 170 to 250 subscribers.  AWESOME!

Blog Income:  Each month, my blog earns about 3.00 dollars.  Definitely room for improvement!  Goal for 2011 is to earn 1000.00 dollars which is roughly 83.00 dollars a month.  A girl can dream, right??
PASS.  Last year Cents To Save earned approximately $2000.00 in blog income.

I am constantly tweaking the look of my blog... I don't know If that will ever stop :)  I am going to figure out how to design a new header this year.
PASS.  New look that I made with Picnik.  I will probably keep it for  awhile.

Thanks to everyone that stops by and visits my blog.  I appreciate your time and your comments. Here is to a "Happy New Year" to all of you!

Don't get too down on yourself. We all have those years that are less than optimal. What matters is that we get back up and try again. Hope 2012 brings you less stress and more good.

PS: Feel free to hit up my site for some of my workouts. They are free and can be done at home. Not a plug either, just really trying to help.

Good work on your goals, especially your blogging goals. My guess is that by writing them down and holding yourself accountable, you accomplished more than you would have without doing that.

I love the idea of buying gifts ahead and sometimes try to do that, but I always have a certain person who wants to return her gifts, and that is difficult if I bought the gift in June. :)

I love you yearly goal of creating a will because I do that too and every year I have failed too. Hopefully, 2012 will be the year where I finally create a will for my family.

Congratulations on your achievements towards your goals Lisa! Keep up the great progress into the New Year!

Build on your successes and work on the others. Make smaller steps so you have more successes. For example, the gym membership. Instead of 8 visits, start with once a week and then add another visit per week. Small steps work!

Nice balance of wins and losses. Looks like you're blog is doing great! Watch out for the soda consumption. Your body, teeth, and wallet will thank you later! Sorry to hear about your knee and layoff. Have yourself a great 2012!

One of my goals is to get my wife in the gym. Why? Because she loves to go and keeps making a million excuses not to go. If exercising her mouth were a workout she would be a bodybuilder. Happy New Year.

Hi Carla!! Yes it is a new year!!! Moving forward and not looking back.:)

Hi Jai, Hope your wife finds time to get back to the gym. Maybe you guys can Salsa and both get a workout?

Jai Catalano said...

I was her teacher and she my student. Sounds cliche but Salsa dancing is why I got married and had to kids. I am afraid to sneeze around her let alone go dancing with her again.

I think a nice step class as a surprise gift is in order. :)
