After we get home from the doctor's visit, we are planning to get dad outside today and sit in the sun for a awhile. Our goal is to get my dad on a regular, some what normal schedule. In the recent past, dad will stay up until about 2 or 3 in the morning watching TV or reading. This means he will want to sleep most of the day. Staying up late with dad has cut into my normal sleep schedule and I am definitely suffering from lack of sleep.
At dad's doctor's visit yesterday, we consulted with his doctor about using Melatonin to help my dad sleep through the night. He said that was okay for us to use. Last night, we gave him 5mg of Melatonin at about 10:00 PM and it worked like a champ. Dad slept ALL night which meant we ALL slept all night. I am feeling pretty good today. Definitely better than the last few days.
******Due to a scheduling error, we go back to oncologist tomorrow.******
Have you hand any experience using Melatonin to help you sleep?

Sorry, no experience with sleep medication, but glad you're working out your schedule with your parents. Hope your mother keeps doing a speedy recovery.
I have pretty bad insomnia (which is why you'll find me trolling the web at the most random hours) I've never tried melatonin but I've heard good things about it. I hope your dad continues to do well, once he gets into a better routine he may not even need the melatonin.
Glad your dad slept well! I have a friend who swears by it... I have 4 kids, that's all the "sleep aid" I need! ;) lol!
My sister uses it. She has excellent/ non vivid dream sleep with it. My daughter's doctor at John Hopkins reccomended it for her- but it interferes with ovulation...something I don't think your dad has to worry about.
Good luck.
Parent care is tough.
Interesting that the Melatonin helps your sister to have non-vivid sleep. I might need to try it just for that alone. And you are right, dad does not have to worry about ovulation. :)
You are right about the "4 kid" sleep aid! I bet you enjoy a good power nap now and again!
Thanks Andrea. We are hoping after all this settles down that dad will get into a better routine. Our fingers are crossed!
Thanks Tanner!
