She answers and in the background I hear many unfamiliar noises, lots of voices and other background sounds. She tries to talk to me, but her voice is hoarse and a stranger comes on the line and introduces herself as Ann, the nurse at the ER. What?? What is my mom doing at the ER?? And why can't I talk to her??
Nurse Ann proceeds to tell my that a neighbor brought my mom in becasue she was experiences dizziness that was so severe she was nauseous and stumbling into walls. Her blood pressure was elevated 170\151.... and that they are going to be running some tests on her. So many thoughts are going through my head right now!! I immediately told the department head what was going on with my mom and that I had to leave. She came in and took over my class all the while I am trying to get tomorrows work out for the students. ( I cound not tell you what I left them, for all I know it could have been last week's work. )
My mom's main concern is that somone stay with my dad. (Not that she is in the ER..... ) He is 90 and cannont be left alone. I called my husband ( who happens to work at the hospital) and he went to check on her and I went to my mom and dad's house to check on dad, and have been here ever since. My dad needs help using his walker, and sometimes we just skip the wlaker and use his zippy wheelchair. But... he definitely needs to be supervised.
Here is where we are at. Mom's CT scan or her brain reveals a "lesion" in her brain. The "lesion" can either be an infection or cancer. As of this evening, they were going to do a MRI of her brain tonight to better classify the "lesion", but for what ever reason they are waiting until I guess tomorrow. The doctors were also going to move her to the MD Anderson hospital (cancer hospital) but that is on hold for now too. Tonight she is in Intensive Care (ICU) and is being monitored closely. (WTF???... this all happend so damn quick... )
My husband did get to go home, and in the morning he is going to pass by here and bring me a change of clothes before he goes to work and checks on my mom. My daughter will be coming down to watch my dad while I go to the hospital later on tomorrow. At least that is the plan for now.
Did I mention my dad is a nightowl?? He has his days and nights backwards and
Yeah... This is definitely my nightmare.
