A Change in Status

Yesterday my husband and my son J, spent about 6 hours working on my "oil leaking" car.  They had to jack it up, remove the right front tire and a bunch of other assorted parts to try and figure out what was the problem.  Towards the end of the evening, they did discover what was wrong.  It was a small gasket that is near the oil pump thingy...( not really sure exactly where).  The gasket is about 2-3 inches in diameter...and it had a tear in it.... which lead to the puddle of oil that followed me everywhere I went.

They called around to find the part and finally ended up calling the Toyota dealer because no one else had it.   You know when you call the dealer for a part, it stands a great chance of being quite expensive!    After getting through to the parts department (which was open until 6pm on a Sunday) my husband was able to locate the elusive gasket.

And when he asked the parts guy how much.... we were all pleasantly surprised   when he said it was only $12.00!  Awesome!!   So he will stop by today after work and pick up two.  Our other Toyota has the same kind of leak.  Time to get all the cars up and running.

I am borrowing my daughter's car today.....Because  "the change in status" is I have a job!  Yep, this all took place before the long Thanksgiving weekend.  I was checking my Emails and I had an offer for apart time job to teach ultrasound.  It is only 3 days a week!  And to tell you the truth... after this break from my last job I really did not want to go back full time.   I went down to the school and talked to the program director and worked out all the details.   All I wanted was to work about 3 days a week for now.  It is amazing how God answers prayers!!

I am excited AND nervous about this new job.

Congratulations on the new job! That is great news! And I'm so glad to hear the car part was a minimal cost!

Gr8 that the gasket was relatively cheap. and congrats on the job.

Now it depends on whether you regard the 6 hours without OH and DS as (a) free time without them under your feet, (b) good father-son bonding time, (c) an educational experience learning to take a car apart or (d) time you would rather have spent as a family. The first three of these mean the time was 'free' otherwise you need to cost their time against what a garage would charge - maybe $100+....

Congrats on the new job! Sorry about the car trouble. At least the part was cheap. I recently had car trouble and had to come up with 800 bucks :-(

Glad you were able to get the oil leak fixed so cheaply. Congratulations on the job as well.

Nice. Your husband must be a great mechanic to find that oil leak. Good luck with your part time job.

Congrats on the job. I am so jealous of people with mechanic skills. That probably saved you at least a 100 dollars in mechanic labour costs (at an honest mechanic). These skills just continue to elude me, and I sadly must admit I don't have the patience to learn them.

CONGRATS! You will love teaching. I teach 1 day a week as a 'side job' and it really is a lot of fun, plus a great way to hone your own skills. Let me just say that after 5+ years of fielding student questions, I know just about everything there is to know about my subject matter! I am very jealous of your 3 day workweek right now. :)
