I love the convenience of shredded lettuce for tacos. But unfortunately, we did not use it all. Makes me glad I did not buy two bags.
As of late, I have been adding fresh lemon to my Coke Zero. But evidently this little lemon missed the boat. I found it rolling around the crisper drawer next to the above bag of shredded lettuce.
The cantaloupe has seen better days too. It does look okay but it definitely does not taste okay.
Kinda bitter....
And here is the fresh lemon juice that I did not know I had in the back of the fridge. It has been there's too long so it is getting pitched.
That is it for the wasted food extravaganza. It has been worse, that's for sure.

It often happens with my salad too. They need to make tiny bags, with like half a cup in it :) Last year I tried to make some cantaloupe bread (found on allrecipes.com). It tasted pretty good.
Awww, it happens! You can use the lemon to clean your microwave, you know. Just squeeze what's left of it into a cup of water and boil that in the microwave--the steam and the acid from the lemon makes it easy to clean. (You probably already knew that!)
Lettuce gets eaten up pretty quickly around here, but I wonder if you put a paper towel in the bag that it would help keep it a bit longer? It seems to work with whole lettuce.
When I only want a little lettuce for something like tacos, I get it from the salad bar. It might be more expensive/ounce but not more expensive if most of the bag is going to go to waist.
Im going to start doing food waste fridays next week, what a great idea!
Cantaloupe bread?? You know,,, I will be checking that out! Interesting!
No... If I did know it I forgot it. Thanks for the tips. Cleaning the microwave with leftover lemons. Great idea!
Great idea. Never thought of that!! Thanks for that.
It keeps you on your toes that's for sure.
I don't bother with the shredded lettuce as it's pretty easy to just shred it from a head of lettuce plus the cost comparison for that convenience isn't worth it to me. Poor lemon, we have the odd one that gets away as well lol..
