My "Mental Health" Day

I took today off from work.  I desperately needed a break from the stressful routine of work and family. It is officially my Mental Health day!  Today, I will be meeting my daughter and grandson to visit "Uncle Donald's Farm".  I am so looking forward to this... my grandson gives me great pleasure and to be able to spend the afternoon with him will definitely improve my spirits. We are having beautiful weather and it should be a great day.

An update on my son:  He reports to his probation officer on Friday.  He has already contacted her to let her know of his previous arrest.  She told him that he will definitely do some jail time for violating his probation.  It could be 30 to 180 days.  She would let him know when the arrest warrant is issued so he can turn himself in.   She also told him that he could bail out when he was arrested... Just so you know I will not be bailing him out.  He will have to figure that one out for himself.   He will have to go to court again and probably will have either mandatory jail time OR extend his probation.

He had another drunken  out of control episode Monday evening.  He went fishing with a buddy at the lake across from his house.  He drank too much, I guess the stress from finding out he had mandatory jail time did him in.  Anyway... his girlfriend had to leave for the night as he was out of control .  His friend that was fishing with him, did stay the night at his house with him to make sure he did not do anything else stupid.  He had already jumped in the alligator infested lake at night and ruined his cell phone. Brain trauma and alcohol do not mix!!  Needless to say, it was a long night of no sleep and tears for me. No mother wants to see their child self destruct.  But... I do not want to self destruct because of what I cannot control either.  And I won't be a victim either.

He has always had a drinking problem.  He is an alcoholic. ( At least in my mind)  My parents were alcoholics, my husband's dad was an alcoholic. Neither my husband or myself drink.  Sober as a church mouse while the kids were growing up.    If it(alcoholism)  is indeed hereditary, then my son got the triple whammy!
I am praying that the mandatory AA meetings will get through to him.  I am praying that he will seek the help he needs.  I know I cannot change him, he has to want to change and with God's help he will.

I hope you all have a great day!  I know I will!

Oh dear Lisa, I'm so glad you are doing somethng for yourself. You are going through some pretty tough stuff...

Alcoholism is genetic, unfortunately. Cold turkey is the only way to combat genetics. Sending hugs and prayers your way!

I hope you can relax today, you need it.
I am hoping for best possible outcome for you and your family. Alcoholism is a terrible disease, that effects all who surround it.

Look after YOU, Lisa, you cannot do anything more for your son than what you have already done. There is alcoholism in my family too - have you tried Al-Anon for yourself? Hopefully your son will one day come to the realization that he needs to take control of his problem and his life. Then, and only then, can you give him a hand up. Thinking of you.
