October Budget Wrap Up

This month was very successful.  I have come to the conclusion that I am a visual learner and by using "jars" for our weekly money, I am able to "see" where the money is going.  At first using the jars did make me uneasy.  I would see the amount that was allocated and then I would stress about the fact that It may not be enough.

At the end of the month I was pleasantly surprised.  The money in the jars did actually go the distance.  In fact, there was even a few bucks left over.  Using the debit card and keeping track never did work, even though I would tell myself that it did.   I was shopping with the mindset of "entitlement".  I believed that since I am working so hard, that I am "entitled" to whatever it was I was buying.   This was especially the case when it came to eating out.  Oh brother.... the money wasted on that over the last few years is astronomical.   This month, we ate out twice.  A  HUGE improvement!  HUGE!

The jars that did have extra money went to other expenses that I did forget about.  This included haircuts, and Tolls. I can see that there will always be adjustments, but that is okay.  October was a good month!

That's excellent Lisa! Only ate out twice - that's awesome - I think we ate out more than usual in October. We've found a place that makes the best chicken wings:) My weakness!

Thanks Jane! It is a huge accomplishment that we only ate out twice considering we could easily eat out twice in one day.... for several days :)

I know just what you mean by the love/hate thing with eating out.

It is a step in the right direction, that's for sure.

Many congrats! Having things be visualized does help a lot. I myself have used the 'envelope system', and that works wonder. I fancy I will go back to it as soon as I am done cashing out the silly rewards for my card... I like knowing exactly how much is left and knowing that I can't overspend because there just isnt anywhere from where to borrow money from. Good stuff, many congrats!

Cash is king here too! I overspend with my debit & never stay under budget that way either... But with cash, I never have issues! I shudder to think of the $$$ I used to spend ordering in all the time too... Years ago I wouldn't think twice about dropping $60 on pizza & extras delivered hot to our door... Not anymore! Eek!

Seeing is Believing. Being able to see the jars constantly would help more than the debit card for some people so this is good.

I am happy to read October was a successful month. I hope that November can be even better.
