Surgery Results

Mom had her brain surgery Thursday evening.  The plan of action was to  go in and  remove the blood clot AND retrieve a sample of the tumor invading the dura layer of her brain.  The neurosurgeon said it would do more harm than good to remove the tumor from her brain.  The initial results of the biopsy are that the the tumor is indeed cancerous.  More testing  of the sample is being done to determine what kind of cancer it is and how best to treat it.

The surgery took about 3 hours and after  they got her blood pressure stabilized in recovery I was allowed to go back and see her.  She looked great!  Smiling and talking and in great spirits.  I stayed for about an hour and fed her ice chips becasue her throat was scratchy and her mouth was parched.  They later moved her to ICU and kept an eye on her to make sure she was stable.

Mom is still experiencing right sided weakness.  They have hope that will improve as the swelling in the brain goes down.  The doctors want to send her to re-hab later but  with my daughter's help we will bring her home and have the therapy performed here or we will do it ourselves.

Yesterday, the day after her surgery the onocologists came by and introduced themselves to her and said they were going to give her the weekend to rest up and on Monday they would begin radiation treatments.
When a bed became available she was moved back up on the neuro floor.  last night she had the nurse cal me and tell me she did not want any visitors yesterday afternoon or last night.  She just wanted to rest.

I did get a full night sleep last night too.   My husband stayed on the couch last night  to listen for my dad when he awakens.  Dad needs help getting up out of his chair and into his walker to get down the hall to the bathroom.  He gets up every three hours or so, and it can sure break up your sleep!  I  fell asleep on the couch about 8PM last night and then went to bed at 10PM.   Was up at three this morning , cleaning the kitchen and getting ready for another busy day.

That is the latest on my mom for now.  Thanks for all your support and prayers during this difficult time.  I appreciate them and you!
