Ground Hog Day: Real Life not the Movie

Yes, mom went back into the hospital again.  Tuesday the paramedics carried her to the ER after she was complaining of dizziness and right arm tingling.  It is usually never good when my mom needs to call the paramedics.   She is not one to complain unless it is really severe.

Of course a battery of tests were run.  Most all of the tests were of her head/brain.   The CT and MRI of her head were okay.  Since they docs could not find anything above the shoulders that was causing the dizziness, they decided to do an MRI of her spine.

Well, don't you know that they found that the cancer has now spread to her spine.  It is only three little spots on her thoracic spine, but that is definitely not the news that any of us wanted to hear.  Next week she is scheduled for a Nuclear Med full body scan.  This will tell us if it is anywhere else in the body/skeletal system.

She is also scheduled to meet with her radiation oncologist and her regular oncologist.  Her neuro-oncologist (the one that ordered the MRI of her spine) said her case will be going before the "tumor review" committee to decide the next plan of action regarding the new lesions on her spine.

I am just hoping and praying that mom can catch a brake and not have to go back into the hospital for awhile.

While mom was in the hospital, my husband and I were at her house taking care of dad.  I know that we said we were going to bring him to our home the next time mom went into the hospital.  Well, we didn't.  After much thought we are going to bring care to him in the form of a home care service.  He really, really, wants to stay home and we will try to honor his wishes.   And mom wants this too.  So we are in the process of interviewing home care agencies to get things in place for future events.

The needs of everyone in this situation change minute by minute.  All it takes is a phone call..........

So sorry to hear your Mom is back in the hospital :( Hiring in home care is a wonderful idea if they can afford it. When hubbies Mom was ill she too wanted to stay home, it was a enormous burden to us all but looking back I am so glad we were able to pull it off. Good luck with your folks, prayers for your family

I'll keep your mom and family in my thoughts and prayers. And especially you, Lisa. Because you have to be really strong now for your parents. I wish you all the best and I hope things will get back to normal soon!

{{Lisa}} this must be so hard for you. I will keep your family in my prayers. I think home care is a great option for you and your parents. I know what it's like to have a parent want to stay in their home...

I'm curious how they came to the conclusion to look at the spine with dizziness? I would never have thought that. I'm glad they were able to find out quickly so they can take care of it.

Don't forget to take care of YOU too! Sending you {{hugs}}!!

Do you have visiting angels in your area? They were great for my mom.
Sorry about your mom.

As a matter of fact, we did contact them. Great agency.

Thank you Sharon. This situation changes all the time. We are just going with the flow and trying to keep everyone happy and sane.

The head CT and MRI were normal. So the docs had to look elsewhere to see if there was anything that could be the culprit.

I'm so sorry to hear about your Mom, Lisa. I know this is hard for you. I'm glad to hear about the course you are taking for your Dad's care... that will give him the freedom he wants without taking away all of yours.

So sorry to hear about this. This is not the kind of Ground Hog day you want to have. When my grandpa needed care, my family went through an agency that provided a live in care giver. That was a blessing and helped my mom to care for my grandpa in our home. Maybe that is something you could look into.
