Computer issues

Holy cow! My computer is so sloooooooowww!!! It takes forever to do anything. I feel as if I am on dial up again. I have high speed internet... but dang......... It is as slow as mud. So Frustrating.
I don't know what to do about it. I am no computer expert. I turn it on, log on and those are my computer skills.
Any suggestions???

I welcome any and all input!

Thanks

Oh I have some tips, hints and ideas for you. After you do each one, stop and completely reboot. If you don't, you won't know if any of these instructions is the cause of a problem. It is a safety factor I always use.

Crap Cleaner - Download and use.
http://www.ccleaner.com/
On their toolbar down the left side of your screen for it, check off ALL the check blocks EXCEPT for anything having to do with forms, form history etc. That will delete any auto-fill info like passwords, addresses etc. I've used this for 3 years and have never been sorry for the thousands of items I have deleted. Don't be afraid to use it. The first time I did keep a backup but I have never needed it. Be sure to click on the two different tabs at the top and use the icons down the left side to clear the registry. HUGE improvements may happen quickly!

Next, update and run an anti-virus program. Sounds like you are infected with a trojan.

Spybot software may also help. I have SpySweeper and did pay for it. There are some free ones, but this one works the best in my opinion.

Make a pass through your files, pictures, music and delete or move anything you don't really need on your computer. It is a good time to backup things if your computer is doing wacko things.

After you do a reboot following this step, do a defrag. If it has been a long time, do a couple of defrags back to back.

Reboot again. Hopefully, this will solve your problems. One scanner is not enough. I have a whole arsenal of them. If your computer is still slow, go find another free anti-virus and run it. No single virus program will ever be complete. I personally use Norton 360.

These steps should work no matter what type of operating system you are using.

If I can help, email me. I am happy to walk you through it if you are unfamiliar with anything or my instructions aren't clear. I'll be around most of the day 7/9. Let me know if I can help.
