The Transitional Period....

Today is the second official day of the "new" ownership or my place of employment. The transitional period is still young but so far things are running about the same. We had a "meet and greet" at out largest center this evening. The new owner, VP and the area manager were there to reassure us that things are pretty much going to be the same.

Yesterday, the dental and medical insurance changeover was addressed. We had two options, and I went with the higher benefit insurance. I think I learned my lesson from last time when I enrolled for the lower cost, lower benefit insurance. My upcoming shoulder surgery was going to cost at least 7500. 00 dollars. There was the additional co-insurance costs too. This was my cost after insurance paid their cost. Boooo!

My cost for the lower end insurance was about 65.00 every two weeks for both me and my husband. The new insurance will cost me about 225.00 every two weeks for both dental and medical coverage. This does seem quite pricey initially, but my deductible will be 1500.00 and my coinsurance is 100% paid for by the insurance. So my out of pocket costs will be only 1500.00 dollars. Yes.. I realize that I will be paying more per month, but I would be paying just as much if not more to my credit card for the lower cost insurance out of pocket costs.

There is a hold up for my surgery. Right now, I am being told that short term disability is not available until March. That could be a problem. They are aware that I am scheduled for surgery in mid February.. so there might be a chance that short term disability will be in place in time for me to move forward with my shoulder surgery!!

So... tomorrow the IT people will be at our center and we will all be learning new computer stuff! Should be fun!

Insurance is almost like playing the slot machine. I am about to change jobs and will have to make similar choices. I think you are doing the right thing. If you need the insurance, you sure want to have good coverage.

Good luck with the transition. I worked at a company, the one before I am at currently, and our buy out went really well. I'm sure that isn't the norm, but it does happen.
