Today we visited a different house. We went to visit my son in the jailhouse of a neighboring county. If you have been reading my blog for the last couple of months, you know that my oldest son in currently in jail. He will be there for about 5 more weeks.
The above is a picture of the facility. You cant take any thing in when you visit except a picture ID. So no opportunity to take any pictures of the inside of the facility. We walked in the front door and went through a body scanner that detects metal. Next, we went up to the second floor to the control room. We handed our licenses to the gentleman in the booth, and he told us that we were to enter in behind him and go down the hall to the elevator and go up to the third floor. When we entered the pass through at the control room, when one door opened, the other door slid shut. Then you could exit and go where you needed to go.
We found the visitor's room just fine. J was sitting in the inmate visiting area and we were on the other side of the glass for the visitors. It was just like you see on TV, he picks up a phone and you pick up a phone and begin your conversation. My husband and I took turns talking to J, and let me tell you an hour can go by pretty quickly!
J looked good, tired but good. His spirits were high and it lifted my spirits to be able to see and talk to him. He is on a work detail, so that will help him to shorten his time of incarceration. He likes the work detail, because he can be outside in the fresh air and sunshine. Weekends are long because he has to stay in the facility, as there is no work detail on weekends.
All in all, it was a very good day!
~~~ Update on 1313 Mockingbird Lane House ~~
We did look in the windows of this house, and the condition is very good for not having anyone live there for 4 years. It did look like there was a squatter there for awhile, but now it appears vacant. The house is priced at 180,000 dollars. For comparison, back before the real estate marked tanked, in 2005-2006, it was worth 750,000 dollars. Yeah.... quite a difference, don't you think? I have to contact my Realtor this week and have her check it out for me. But as I understand from the listing Realtor, it has a contract on it. This is the fourth time it has had a contract, evidently the bank is being difficult. We still have hopes that the property we have a contract on will go through without a hitch. But you never know.......

So glad you found your Son well and in good spirits, nobody ever wants to have to go visit in a jailhouse, so you were very brave and I,m sure your Son appreciated you making the effort. I thought the screen and phone method of visiting were only for hardened criminals. shows you how much I know.
I thought like Maureen too :( seeing all the TV shows. Glad you found your son in good spirit. I can imagine how hard it must be for you to visit, but your son will appreciate the effort.
Yea.. I was a bit shocked to see the glass was separating us and that we had to use a phone to communicate. I guess I was a bit naive about the whole thing too. Oh well. Now I know.
I'm looking into buying a house that's been vacant for awhile and is in not-so-good condition, like the one you describe. Do you have any tips you've picked up from your home-shopping process?
