Murphy Stopped By

The last couple of days have been busy around the house.   Tuesday, the toilets backed up and flooded both bathrooms, hall, master bedroom and master bedroom closet.  Yep, it totally sucked.  Luckily we have tile throughout the house so there was no issues with wet carpets.  For most of the morning it was me and the Wet-Vac.  Sucking, sucking and sucking.  After the floors were dry, furniture was put back in place and about a bajillion towels were washed and dryed, we figured out that it is a problem with the septic tank.  We called a septic tank company to come out and pump out the tank.  Fun stuff, right?

This weekend's project will help prevent this from happening again.  To extend the life of our primary septic tank, we will be taking our washer off the tank.  We will in fact dig and build a smaller drain field just for our washer.  It will be a labor intensive, but we have experience with this project.  At our first house,( now our rental) we did the same thing. To this day, taking the washer off the primary septic has definitely extended the life of the drainfield and the septic tank.

Yesterday was another busy day.  If only it was another house project, I think I would like it much more.  Suffice it to say that alcohol makes people (especially those individuals that cannot handle it) do super  stupid things.  Family drama, I could certainly live without it.   Moving on....

Getting back on track is my goal this weekend.   I will be collecting all my receipts and tallying up my spending this week.  I am anxious to see how I am doing with my grocery budget, I may come in under budget this week.

Oh yuck! Actually I found your post very helpful today as my house in PEI is on a septic system. We haven't put in a washing machine yet so will consider your advice about a separate drainage field. Very smart. I guess Murphy travelled from my house to your house this week! Sorry about that!

That sucks. Glad that you got it taken care of. Hope your receipts bring good news.

Bummer. We happily bought a house with a septic. Unfortunately our area developed and we were forced into sewers - very expensive.

Yikes! Glad you know what you're doing! I've dealt with a flood before and the wetvac that I rented didn't do squat. Best of luck this weekend!
