Operation Christmas Child Update

In a previous post regarding Operation Christmas Child, I committed to filling 12 shoeboxes. I have been busy acquiring a variety of items for these boxes and I want to show you and give you an update on my progress. Here are a few pictures of what I have so far:

Items to date:

A dozen of the following: Toothpaste (free), Washcloths( free), highlighters (9 cents each,) 10 pack of pencils (9 cents each,) 10 pack of pens (9 cents each), 24 pack of crayons (22 cents each), Johnson's soap (free) toothbrushes (free), rulers (9 cents each)

So roughly I have spent 6.96 out of pocket so far. Most of the items were purchased at Walgreens, and I put the purchase price on a gift card, so actually I have spent about 2.64 dollars for the crayons at Target. The rest of the stuff was either couponed/rebated for free,or put on a gift card.

My goal is to concentrate on filling boxes for older boys. So now I am challenged to find items that are "fun" for boys. Any Suggestions?

Balls and Jacks are always popular in impoverished nations. One year, my husband and I deflated a soccer ball and put in an air pump!

Hot Wheels! You can always find these or the "generic" ones on sale.
