Impulse Buys Will not Reduce my Debt

I did it. I succumbed to peer pressure. Everyone at work has one, my son and my daughter have one. I wanted one too. It was not in my budget but I bought it (charged it) anyway. I figure confession is good for the soul so here goes.

I am now the proud owner of an iphone. And I love it. After I bought the phone AND the handy dandy phone protector/car charger I ended up spending 169.00 dollars. My monthly bill will not change as I already had the add ons from my palm phone.

Oh yea, I am weak.

Congrats on the iPhone. I have one (the old version... hubby upgraded to 3G so I took his old one) but it is still a great phone! Maybe you can use some apps to help you reduce your debt and keep track of budget. Think of it as a way to improve your saving.

Lisa, enjoy the iPhone. If you're having some buyer's remorse (as it sounds like) and are looking to recoup some of the cost of the iPhone, you may want to look to squeeze some extra dollars out of your plan itself. We tend to think of wireless plan costs as fixed, but you can tinker with your plan to optimize your features to best suit your usage and often save significant cash in the process. I actually work in the consumer advocacy division of the company Validas, where we electronically audit and subsequently reduce the average cell bill by 22 percent through our website, http://www.fixmycellbill.com. Put simply, Validas guards against frivolous and unnecessary charges that inflate your cell bill more than it should be for your usage. You can find out for free if fixmycellbill.com can modify your plan to better suit your needs by going to the website.

For more info, check out Validas in the national news media, most recently on Fox News at http://www.myfoxtampabay.com/dpp/consumer/conlaw/lower_cell_phone_bills_072409 .

Good luck on reducing iPhone bill, especially in light of this unforgiving economy.

Congrats! I've been debating getting an iPhone lately. I don't currently have data included in my plan yet so it'd be quite a big purchase for me. You'll have to give us a review on how often you use it, if you do have remorse for getting it, and what your favorite apps are. :)
