The Best Thing I Sold on EBay #6 ~ Name your Poison Cera Glassware

Recently I came across a great new blog, "
Goodwill Haunting". She highlights some of her great finds that have really been money makers for her. My husband and I have also come across some great finds too and we wanted to share them with you

I found these lovely glasses at a thrift store in north Florida. I love the theme of them! "Name your poison". And the five glasses each state that and on the front is a specific " poison". I researches these and discovered that there are in fact 6 glasses in the set. Neiman Marcus specifically sold these. The glassware is "Cera" and is a great vintage find.

For the set of five glasses I paid $5.00. The set sold for $129.00 and are on their way to Texas.

I can't wait to go back to that Thrift Store and find some more great treasures!

The Best Thing I Sold On eBay: Philly Mug 2012

I have decided to revive "The Best Thing I Sold On eBay" Series.  Due to complicated circumstances throughout the year the series  fell by the wayside.  I have an abnormal obsession for coffee cups/mugs and I will always pick up a mug or two when I visit the Thrift Stores.

In fact I have 138 mugs listed for sale in my eBay store.   The mugs are easy to store and easy to ship.  I can ship almost any mug for $6.00 to any where in the US.

One of my goals for 2013  is to grow my eBay business to become more of a business than a hobby.

Buy It Now Price:  $25.00                                  Sold:  25.00

Paid:  .25 cents                                                     From:  Thrift Store

                          Ended:  Nov 5, 2012                                  Winner: Odessa,Texas

You just never know what people are looking for.  Mostly people are buying something that reminds them of their past.  Recently I have sold an ugly Christmas Sweater to a woman in England.  She wanted it because several years ago she designed the sweater.  In her correspondence she agreed that it was an ugly sweater but the memories she had while designing it were priceless.

The Best Thing We Sold On Ebay ~ #4 Remington Hot Rollers

As I had mentioned before, my husband opened an Ebay Store to get rid of his excess automotive and hunting items.  Last month, he did pretty good.  His shift at the hospital is an early one.  So when he gets home we have been hitting up some of the local thrift stores to see what else we can find to sell.  Luckily, where we currently live has a plethora of Thrift stores, so there is always somewhere to go.

Buy It Now Price $64.99                                          Sold for $64.99
                Paid:  $2.00                                                            Found:  Thrift Store
Ended:  Nov 2011                                               Buyer:  Savannah, Georgia

I found these hot rollers at a Thrift Store for $2.00.  It was a complete set, clips, instructions, and warranty card.  I had read on one of the forums I follow that Vintage Hot rollers were a hot item.  Evidently these specific rollers are gel filled.  Therefore, they hold the heat longer and produce a better curl.  Since they are no longer in production, they are in high demand.   Go figure, right?

Who would want these hot rollers you might ask?  Actually there are quite a few people who are looking for them.  Cheerleaders, dancers and pageant  girls!  You just never know what people will want to buy!

There is definitely a demand for "Ugly Christmas Sweaters"!  We picked up this sweater for .25 cents.  It was fill a bag for $5.00 day at the thrift store, which happens to be my favorite time to go.  There is a big market for "Ugly Christmas Sweaters".  Many people have "Ugly Christmas Sweater" parties and hold contests for the tackiest or ugliest sweater.   Yeah, a whole room full of people in ugly Christmas sweaters makes for great photo ops!  And what is typical first prize?  Fruit Cake.

Needless to say, I am always on the look out for more great "Ugly Christmas Sweaters".  They are definitely profitable!

The best thing We Sold On EBay ~ #2 CHALLENGER STS-9 SPACE SHUTTLE MUG

Ended:  October 2011                                                                              Winner: Washington State

This is the garage sale purchase that just keeps giving. A few months ago, after I dropped off my grand son, I hit up a few garage sales in her neighborhood.  This particular  sale was small, but you should never discount a small sale.  As I was looking through their stuff I spotted this cardboard box full of Space Shuttle memorabilia.  There were 16 coffee mugs that documented different space shuttle missions.  There was also paper memorabilia that relates to the different missions, about 12 pieces.  And last but not least there were a couple of space shuttle stick pins and belt buckles.

Originally, the box was marked $2.00 per item.  Well, it was getting late in the day and I asked him what he would take for the whole box.  He thought it about it and then he said $10.00.  Easy decision... SOLD!!   This was a great deal for me.  I have all the items listed and for a $10.00 investment, I have grossed to date, $ 159.00.    We still have about 8 mugs left, and some of the paper memorabilia as well.
Happy Ebaying!

The Best Things We Sold On Ebay ~ #1 "Paradise Found" Hawaiian Shirt

As I had mentioned before, my husband opened an Ebay Store to get rid of his excess automotive and hunting items.  Last month, he did pretty good.  His shift at the hospital is an early one.  So when he gets home we have been hitting up some of the local thrift stores to see what else we can find to sell.  Luckily, where we currently live has a plethora of Thrift stores, so there is always somewhere to go.

Buy It Now Price:  $19.99                                                Sold:  $19.99
Paid:  .25 cents                                                                From Thrift Store
Ended:  Sept 2011                                                            Winner from Texas

Here is out first "Best Thing".  It is a Hawaiian Shirt by "Paradise Found"
The thrift store that we found this shirt has a "Fill A Bag for $5.00" every Wednesday and Friday.  You can easily fill a grocery bag with at least 20 pieces of clothing.  When you are just starting out trying to figure out what to sell on Ebay, you have to take a few risks.  Paying a quarter for an item of clothing is definitely a small risk.

When we first listed this shirt, we put it at auction for $9.99 for seven days.  It had a few hits but no serious bids.  After researching what others were listing this particular brand for, we decided to put it in the Ebay store for $19.99 and the buyer pays shipping.  It was pretty quiet for awhile.  In fact, the same thrift store trip we also found a red "Paradise Found" Hawaiian Shirt .....
I definitely like the red one better.  The red shirt was listed at auction for $9.99 with no bids, and it too went in to the store for $19.99.  It did sell, but the buyer was non- paying so it will be going back into the store.

This particular brand of Hawaiian shirt was worn by Tom Selleck in Magnum P.I.   Some of you may  remember that T.V. show.

A little history about Paradise Found:

In the 1930's and 1940's the "Aloha Shirt" became a universal symbol of Hawaii's warmth and spirit. Today, almost 70 years later, Paradise Found & Diamond Head Sportswear carry on the Hawaiian tradition by manufacturing the highest quality, most authentic versions of the islands favorite designs. From the warm, romantic days of old Hawaii, we proudly present our collection of "Made in Hawaii." The islands most authentic designs of nostalgic and modern "Aloha Shirts," all of which embody the spirit of Aloha!

Time to hit the thrift stores again and look for more of these little beauties.  Hope your thrifting adventures bring you much success!
